Saptari, Dec. 27: More than 300 vehicles are stuck in limbo at the Rajbiraj Customs Office in Rajbiraj because of its negligence and indifference. These vehicles, which include 250 two-wheelers and 50 four-wheelers and tractors which were seized because they did not have customs clearance, are worth millions of rupees. But, instead of auctioning them for revenue, the office has allowed them to lie unused which has started to damage their parts.
According to chief Abhishek Kantha, the Rajbiraj Customs Office, has not been able to auction the seized vehicles for the past four years. As a result, it is running out of space to keep new automobiles. “This is why we have to keep them out in the open,” he said.
Many of the vehicles have started to rust. As informed by the office, the delay in handing over the seized automobiles to the customs by the police, the cumbersome evaluation process and other bureaucratic hurdles have delayed the auction.
