Kathmandu, Dec 31: The Nepali Congress parliamentary party office has expressed serious concern over non-payment to sugarcane farmers for their produce.
Issuing a press release on Tuesday, the parliamentary party office of NC has urged the government and other stakeholders concerned to be serious to addressing the problems facing the sugarcane farmers.
It may be noted that the farmers are not paid by the sugar mills for long and the dues account for millions of rupees.
The press release issued by chief whip of the party, Balkrishna Khand, said, "Although agreements were made between the sugar mill owners and farmers in the presence of government time and again, non-implementation of the agreement is worrying."
He demanded the government to take special initiative to address the concerns and interests of the agitating sugarcane farmers.
