Kathmandu, Oct. 13: Nepali Congress Labour and Trade Union Department Monday submitted a petition to Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli demanding that the government provide festival assistance to the people who do not have regular income, and the poor families.
Department chief Shiva Prasad Humagain informed on Monday that his department demanded that Rs. 10,000 be provided to each family to meet their festive expenses.
In the petition, the department said the government should provide expenses to the low-income people working in formal as well as informal sectors.
It also asked to collect data of the low-income families and provide Rs. 7,000 cash to each family per month as living expenses and food for three months.
The department informed it demanded for full implementation of Working Journalist Act and proportional advertisement and clean feed policies in the media sector.
Humagain informed that the department demanded for legal provision to withdraw illegal money from the people and institutions involved in corruption and irregularities during the COVID-19 pandemic as there have been irregularities in the government expenses during this period.
Accusing the government of showing political bias to the people who wanted to come home from abroad, the department demanded employment for the people who returned from abroad.
It also asked the government to rescue people from aboard by using the Welfare Fund.
The department also demanded free treatment and insurance of Rs. 2.5 million to the people working on the frontline during the COVID-19 pandemic.
