Kathmandu, Mar. 26: Brain Pooling Nepal, a progamme introduced by Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST) from last fiscal year is encouraging, according to its officials.
The programme aims to lure back talented Nepalis, mainly those who had gone abroad for study. It also helps in congregating prominent Nepali scientists and technologists from across the globe willing to contribute towards the development of science and technology in the country.
Vice-chancellor of NAST Sunil Babu Shrestha said that the programme was categorised into three sections. In the first category, the NAST hires some of the returnees as employees and provides them with employment opportunity through research grant.
In the second, it invites prominent Nepali scientists under NAST Eminent Fellow Programme. In the third, the academy hires them under Senior Fellow Programme.
In the last fiscal year, 12 such people were selected, while that number is 7 for current fiscal year. Two senior scientists as NAST Eminent Fellows and six young scientist and technologist as NAST Associate Fellows were brought in under the programme, informed NAST.
Among them, engineer Dipendra Gautam has published his three research papers in international journals.
