Taplejung, Nov. 7: Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yogesh Kumar Bhattarai has inspected the Suketar Airport.
Minister Bhattarai, who arrived in his home district of Taplejung with Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal Rajan Kumar Pokharel on Friday, inspected the Suketar Airport which is currently being upgraded and directed the construction company to complete work within the deadline.
Inquiring about the progress made so far, Minister Bhattarai stressed that the work should not be delayed. “Any delay will hamper tourism development,” he said, adding, “The upgrading work needs to be completed soon to facilitate the tourists wishing to visit the world’s third-highest mountain peak Kanchenjunga as well as other mountain peaks and destinations in the region.”
Further stating that improving the airport would enable tourism development only if regular flights could be operated, Bhattarai said that the government was closely monitoring everything to ensure that the work completed in time.
Director General Pokharel informed that 55 airports across the country were being upgraded and said that the Civil Aviation Authority was in direct contact with all the construction companies to ensure their quality and timely completion.
Meanwhile, Khadka Krishna/Baglamukhi JV Construction, the contractors upgrading the Suketar Airport, shared that 60 per cent of the work had been completed.
