By Chhetu Sherpa, Kathmandu Apr. 22: Guinness World record holder mountaineer Kami Rita Sherpa is set to scale Mt. Everest/Sagarmatha, the highest peak, twice in a month this time and thus set a new record of scaling the highest peak for 26 times.

Sherpa had scaled Mt. Everest (8,848.86 meter) twice in a month in 2019 as well.

The world record holder summiteer is leading a 13-member team of Sherpa guide to pave the way to the highest peak for this season, which has reached the final phase. Sherpa will set foot on the summit while paving the way to it and then climb it again as a guide along with Bahraini Prince Sheikh Mohamen Hamad Mohamed al-Khalifa.

Kami Rita Sherpa broke the record set by Aapa Sherpa's 21 times when he scaled Mt. Everest for 22 times in 2018. If he succeeds to scale Mt. Everest this time, he will set a new record of climbing the highest peak for 26 times.

According to Nepal Tourism Board data, so far 6,507 people have climbed Mt. Everest in the last 68 years.

This year, 371 people have taken permission to scale the highest peak while 262 had reached the peak in 2018 and 280 in 2019.

The path construction team led by Kami Rita has pave the way up to 7800 meter and it is expected the way to the highest peak will be constructed by this week, according to Tashi Lakpa Sherpa, director of Seven Summit Trek, an agency that is building the rope trail to the highest peak for the climbers in this season.
