Kathmandu, Jan.12: The Government has decided to reopen the cinema theatres, which have remained shut since March last year because of COVID-19 fear. A Cabinet meeting on Sunday decided to allow the operation of cinema theatres by adopting safety measures, informed Akash Adhikari, president of Film Producers’ Association through social network site.
President of Film Development Board (FDB) Dayaram Dahal said that they informally received permission to open the cinema theatres.
The filmmakers have repeatedly been seeking the government permission to open the cinema theatres.
After the government did not take any decision to open the halls, the Nepal Motion Picture Association, an umbrella organisation of cinema theatres, had opened the hall unilaterally from December 25, 2020.
Although the cinema halls have been in operation since December 25 last year, no new movie has been released. Only old movies are being screened in the halls.
Senior actor Shiva Shrestha’s new film “Yeuta Yesto Prem Kahani” will be the first new Nepal film to be screened in halls after the reopening of the halls.
Shrestha has already announced that his movie would be released from January 14.
