By Rajan Rawat, Simkot, Feb. 24: Works for the development and upgrade of Simkot Airport in Humla, which holds a huge tourism prospect, have been moving on in full swing.
The tourism business in the district is expected to thrive after the expansion and development of the airport.
According to Ajaya Kumar Gupta, field in-charge engineer of the Simkot Airport Project, works of blacktopping of the apron, fencing and construction of new apron have reached the final stage.
“Around 70 per cent of the blacktopping works, 90 per cent of fencing and 50 per cent of new apron have competed as of now,” said Gupta. He added that black topping had been halted for the time being due to decrease in temperature.
The Simkot branch of Civil Aviation Authority Nepal informed that three new projects were currently under construction in Humla.
The Simkot airport is compelled to park up to five aircrafts in the apron which has the capacity to host only three aircrafts. Likewise, 10 to 12 helicopters are parked in the helicopter airport.
In the peak seasons, the helicopters were also parked in the empty lands near the airport area.
After the completion of construction of new apron and fencing, it will be easier for Simkot airport to manage air traffic and ensure safety and security within the airport premises.
