Sindhupalchowk, Nov 16: An 'earthquake awareness programme in school' has been organized at a local Indreshwori Secondary School of Melamchi bazaar.    
    
At the programme organized with assistance from a university of Switzerland, orientation was provided to students and teachers on how the human loss could be minimized in the earthquake, according to school teacher Lekhnath Bhattarai.    
    
Trainer and expert on earthquake, Shiva Subedi, informed the research had shown that the force concentrated under the surface of western belt of Nepal could cause earthquake measuring up to eight Richter scale. As it is a natural disaster, it can not be controlled but the loss it causes can be minimized with massive public awareness and preparedness.    

On the occasion, the former principal of the school, Radhakrishna Shrestha, said a seismometer was installed at Indreshwori Secondary School with the assistance of Melamchi Municipality. It is helpful to teach students how the earthquake is measured and the structures get damaged with quakes.    
    
Moreover, the expert informed that the seismometers were installed at 22 schools of Nepal under the 'Earthquake awareness programme in school'. Even the technical skills of installation were shared under the programme, he added.    
    

Int'l recognition to karate trainers    
    
Meanwhile, two karate players from the Sindhupalchowk district have been provided recognition to work as international karate trainers. The World Karate Federation awarded the trainer license to Sanu Babu Giri of Melamchi Municipality and Rajman Shrestha from Panchpokhari Thangpal Rural Municipality.    
    
They got the license and certificate of international trainers recently- on November 14. Giri, who is also the central secretary of the Nepal Gojuriyo Karate Association, expressed happiness over the international recognition and mentioned that it had encouraged him to do more on karate.
