Kathmandu, Dec 29: Dhanya Purnima is being celebrated by offering worship to paddy crop and offering donations today on full moon day of the month of Mangsir as per the lunar calendar.
Many communities celebrate the festival by making different food item from the new rice and offer it to god and goddesses. Some of the communities also celebrate the Dhanya Punhi by worshipping gods according to their traditions.
A fair is organised at different places including Dhaneshwor of Kavrepalanchowk, Anantalingeshwor of Bhaktapur and Champadevi on the occasion.
Meanwhile, people from Newar Community are celebrating Yomari Purnima on Wednesday with excitement and joy of harvesting of new paddy crop.
Yomari Purnima is also called as Yomari Punhi. It is also celebrated as the biggest festival of the Newar Community.
Yomari is delicious food made from rice flour, chaku (molasses) or khuwa and sesame.
The Newar community also celebrate Yomari purnima by worshipping the place where paddy is stored.
