Kathmandu, Mar. 27: The government has directed to stop the sell and purchase of medicines through online and social sites.
Issuing a public notice on Thursday, the Department of Drugs Administrative (DDA) under the Ministry of Health and Population has said that false or misleading publicity or advertisement of drugs is being carried out in the name of online pharmacy.
The DDA is issuing notice to prevent the misuse or abuse of drugs and allied pharmaceutical substances and false or misleading information relating to the efficacy and use of drugs and to control the production, sale, distribution, export, import, storage and consumption of those drugs that are not safe for public consumption.
According to Drugs Act 2035, no person can make a false or misleading publicity or advertisement about the use, utility or efficacy of any drug.
But it has been found that the medicines are being sold against the law, according to the notice issued by the DDA. The DDA has warned that those who do not follow the direction will be punished as per the law. According to the Drugs Act, any person who intends to make publicity or advertisement of any drug shall obtain the license, as prescribed, from the Department.
The consumers themselves are responsible for the effects of drugs purchased through those online pharmacies, which have not obtained license from the DDA, read the notice.
