Kathmandu, Dec 6: Another stinging message of the elections went to the alternative forces that touted themselves as the alternative to the mainstream parties such as CPN and NC. The smaller parties like Sajha Party, Janamat Party of CK Raut and Bibekshil Dal seem that they were on their beam ends. They often heated the social media, chiding the major parties for the mess of the nation. But they failed even to save their deposits in the polls. In his irate tweet, coordinator of Sajha Party, Rabindra Mishra, said that the people again endorsed the corrupt political parties. The poll outcomes were not also encouraging to the Madhes-based Socialist Party and Ratsriya Janata Party. These parties failed to fare well in their favoured constituencies.
Despite their initial razzmatazz, the so-called alternative forces could not offer different yet credible programmes and principles to the people, many of them are fed up with the big parties. The new parties also lack strong organisations that take them to the doorsteps of the people. Social media are effective tool but they can hardly substitute the traditional party organisations that carry the people’s aspirations and concerns. It is imperative for the alternative forces to reinvent innovative ideas to win the trust of people. Only then can they achieve electoral gains.
