Kapilvastu, Dec. 24: The blacktopping work of the Kapilvastu section of the postal highway has started.
The road from Rajpur to the Jamuwar bridge of Taulihawa is being blacktopped in the first phase.
Bishnu Babu Pandey, head of the postal highway project office in Kapilvastu, informed that work was moving forward with the aim to blacktop 15 kilometres of road, including four lanes in the market area and two dedicated lanes in other areas, by mid-April.
Navin Sharma, managing engineer at Sharma and Company, said that the locals had obstructed work at Taulihawa market and Bargadi because of a dispute over drinking water pipes. “We will be able to finish work within the stipulated time if the obstructions are removed,” he said.
Sharma and Company is the company contracted to pitch the highway.
A total of 74 kilometres of postal highway is being constructed in the district at a cost of Rs. 2.62 billion.
