Kathmandu, Mar. 30: The Association of Pharmaceutical Producers of Nepal (APPON) stated that they will be producing both 500mg and 650mg paracetamol.
Issuing a statement on Monday, APPON revealed that they had no plan to stop the production of 500mg paracetamol tablets.
There had been rumours that the pharmaceutical companies were planning to introduce 650mg paracetamol in a bid to increase its price.
APPON denied the rumours and claimed that they would produce both the doses.
“The Drug Advisory Committee on March 10 decided to allow production of 650mg paracetamol tablets. It doesn’t mean that 500mg tablets will not be produced. We will produce both doses of the tablets as per the demand,” read the statement signed by APPON president Prajwal Jung Pandey.
The statement, which was also signed by APPON general-secretary Biplab Adhikari, also read, “Several countries have started producing 650mg paracetamol following its necessity in some cases. Our responsibility is to produce necessary medicines.”
The statement also mentions that many health professionals around the globe were arguing about the need of 1,000mg paracetamol tablets.
The price of the tablets will be based on international and national practices and standards.
