in Saptari
By Mala Karn, Kalyanpur, Feb. 26: Two consecutive days of heavy rainfall have caused major damage to the brick factories in Saptari.
The unseasonal wind and rain that hit the district on Tuesday and Wednesday destroyed all the raw bricks that were kept out in the open space, causing losses worth millions of rupees to the factories.
"Out of the 72 brick factories in the district, 42 have been affected and they have lost about Rs. 200,000 to Rs. 500,000 each," said Durgananda Sah, president of the Bricks Traders Association, Saptari.
“We were readying to put all the raw bricks in the brick kilns but the rain destroyed them all,” exclaimed Shashi Yadav, a brick trader.
“The state only levies taxes on us but does not give us any support during difficult times like this,” he complained.
