Kathmandu, Dec. 3: Veteran singer Jagat Mardan Thapa is now receiving treatment in ventilator support at Norvic Hospital, Thapathali, and Kathmandu.
Singer Thapa, 84, was admitted to the hospital after he tested positive for coronavirus.
According to his son Mohit Mardan Thapa, singer Thapa tested negative for coronavirus in a week and was transferred to the CCU (Critical Care Unit).
But on Friday, his condition deteriorated as his oxygen level dropped suddenly and since then he has been receiving treatment in ventilator support, said his son.
Singer Thapa had no chronic problems, but after he was infected with coronavirus, his health suddenly deteriorated, he informed.
Thapa also informed that Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation Yogesh Bhattarai visited the hospital to inquire about his father’s health condition.
Talking to The Rising Nepal, writer director and film critic Prakash Sayami said that the government should pay attention to the treatment of veteran singer Thapa.
Considering the immense contribution made by Thapa to Nepali music industry, the government should support him financially for treatment, he added.
According to Sayami, the government had also provided support to other veteran singers such as Phatteman, Amar Gurung and Deepak Jangam, and singer Thapa is one of their contemporaries.
Stating that singer Thapa has dedicated his whole life to music, Sayami said the government should support Thapa in his treatment.
Singer Thapa was preparing to bring his sixth album “Kunai Bhedbhaaw Chhain Prakritiko Sundar Bardaan” on the occasion of his 85th birthday.
However, due to his deteriorating health, he could not record all seven songs, but if his health improves, his son has planned to release the album consisting of only five songs on his 85th birthday.
