Sarlahi, July 17: The price of green vegetables has increased by threefold in the district.
The decrease in the vegetable production caused by the continuous rainfall has been attributed to increase in vegetable prices in Sarlahi.
Vegetables are decaying at the farms due to rainfall, said Rajkumar Mahato, local farmers of Lalbandi Municipality-11.
He said that continuous rainfall over the days has damaged vegetables when the farmers were just getting market after prolonged nationwide lockdown was relaxed.
The price of vegetables has, of late, skyrocketed at the wholesale market of Lalbandi. Consumers were in trouble while vegetable prices increased. But farmers have become happy following the increment of vegetable prices in the market.
Price of bottle gourd reached Rs. 30-35 per kilogram, pointed gourd Rs. 40-42 per kilogram, and okra Rs. 30-32 per kilogram at present, said Mohammad Usman, wholesaler of Lalbandi Wholesale Vegetable Market.
The price of bottle gourd was Rs. 10 per kilogram, pointed gourd at Rs. 15 per kilogram and okra at Rs. 12 per kilogram before the rainy season.
Similarly, price of bitter gourd increased to Rs. 35 per kg from Rs. 12 and beans to Rs. 60 per kilogram from Rs. 25 in short period of time.
But the consumers have to pay more price to vegetables than they are available at wholesale market due to higher profit margin of the retailers.
