By Belina Thapa, Lamjung, June 15: People of over hundred houses in Manang district have been displaced as floods triggered by the incessant rainfall entered their houses.
Some 60 houses of Chame bazar, the district headquarters, and 48 houses of Tal Gaun of Naso Rural Municipality have been flooded as the water flow in the Marsyangdi river has swollen due to the incessant rainfall since Monday.
Bishnu Lamichhane, Chief District Officer of Manang, said that some 300 people of the bazar area were shifted to newly built building of the district.
He said people whose houses were flooded and those whose houses are near the river were shifted to safer places.
"It has been raining heavily since Monday. Human settlement got flooded early morning today and many houses at great risk. Five houses at Tatopani Kund area opposite of Chame bazar are completely submerged. As the rain is continuous, there is heightened risk and we have shifted the people to safer places," he said.
Nepal Police and Nepali Army personnel have been mobilised to rescue the people and carry luggage to safer places..
All 48 houses of Tal Gaun in Naso Rural Municipality have been inundated. Flood water has submerged as much as the first floor of some 25 houses. The people are said to be taking shelter at Sirantal, Myardi area.
Min Rashi Gurung, a local, said that flood entered the settlement as the volume of water in Marsyangdi River increased as the flow was obstructed.
With the falling of the electric poles, the district headquarters is out of power and even telephone service has been disrupted, according to the district administration.
The flood has swept away belly bridge over Timang Stream and a mini hydropower project there.
