Charikot, Feb.1 : Kalinchowk Rural Municipality of Dolakha has introduced one house and one tap programme in its nine wards. "The programme is launched with the slogan “Pani Jeevan Ho” (Water is Life) in every household, said Bin Kumar Thami, chairman of the rural municipality.
Arrangements are being made to distribute water 24 hours a day in places where there are plenty of water resources and conserve water resources in the places where there is no water so that water could be collected to supply to the locals.
To distribute water, the Community Development Forum Nepal has received fund from Christian Aid under the Integrated Housing, Climate Adaptation and Disaster Risk Reduction Project in ward no. 8, said Prem Prasad Adhikari, director of the organisation.
The organisation has already connected taps in 120 houses at a cost of Rs. 4.7 million, of which Rs. 713,000 was collected from public donations.
According to Adhikari, with the financial investment of Water Aid, 30 per cent work has been done in building taps in 163 houses and three public taps in Ward No. 1 at a cost of Rs. 13.6 million.
Likewise, in Ward No. 6, about 50 per cent work has been done in the construction of 125 taps at a cost of Rs. 111.14 million. Preparations are underway for the construction of a tap in Ward No. 5.
In Ward Nos. 2, 3 and 4, an organisation called Sevak Nepal, has completed the work of setting up the taps. A search for a donor is underway to supply water in Ward No. 7, which is not included under the one house, one tap programme, chairman Thami said. He said that the programme would continue next year even if it should be done by the rural municipality itself.
