Kathmandu, May 3: Nepal Telecom (NT) has introduced ‘e-Shiksha’ data package in its GSM mobile service aiming to facilitate online learning for school and college students during the lockdown period.
NT’s e-Shiksha package has come into effect when some schools and universities have started online learning facilities to their students by using internet.
Two small and big packages - 6GB data at Rs 260 and 15GB data at Rs 500 both having validity for 28 days - are available under the special educational package.
Tariff of this package is very low as compared to other packages available in the market and will be available to the mobile numbers recommended by concerned educational institutions.
NT has brought this educational package at very cheap tariff rate to facilitate online learning in request of schools, universities and in consultation with concerned authorities, NT spokesperson Rajesh Joshi said by issuing a press statement.
According to NT, students can only use 3GB data out of 6GB package of Rs 260 during the time of 5 AM to 10 AM every day while remaining 3GB will be available for any time.
Similarly, 6GB data included in 15GB package available at Rs 500 should also be used in the morning between 5 AM to 10 AM and remaining 9GB can be used at any time.
The company informed that it would manage morning time (5 AM to 10 AM) data facility through its system.
This educational data package is introduced considering the corporate social responsibility of the company to ease teaching-learning activities during the lockdown period, it stated.
To avail the facility, firstly schools and colleges should recommend the list of mobile numbers of students and teachers to the email address given by the company and after the registration of those numbers the company will notify respective users via SMS to activate the package.
After getting notification from NT, students and teachers can buy one of two – 6GB and 15GB - data package by dialing *1441#.
This data service can be used for online classes by using various educational aps and software, and at the same time to download educational materials.
