By a Staff Reporter, Kathmandu, Oct. 10: NepCine, a company that has been managing the international promotion and marketing of Nepali films, music, arts, and culture, has formally launched music rights management and licensing services amid a function held in the capital on Thursday.
Launched for the first time in Nepal, the service has played a key role in bringing to the fore the rights of lyricists, composers, producers, presenters, and technicians who play a key role in composing and producing songs and music, said Rayan Rays Global CEO and Founder of NepCine.
Although there is an international rule that music royalties must be paid with the permission of the owner of the rights when it comes to commercial or public use of songs and music but these rules are not followed by the users of Nepali songs and music which may lead the music and art industry in the critical state.
According to NepCine, the music licensing service has been launched to change this situation and establish the rights of Nepali music and artists.
At the same time, in order to make this service fully transparent and accountable, portal access has been provided so that both the users and the rights holders can view and search their financial and other related details easily.
In the programme, more than 150 creators of various genres were honored and their royalties collected from different countries in the last three months were also distributed.
Among the creators, who received royalties were RanjitGajmer, KusumGajmer, ShambhujeetBaskota, TulsiGhimire, RajendraThapa, ArjunPokhrel, BasantSapkota, Rajan Raj Siwakoti, Deepak Sharma, Hari Lamsal, Bipin Kiran, Babu Bogati, Basant Thapa, Vijay Lama and others.
Senior media person Dinesh DC, filmmaker Krishna Malla, lyricist RajendraThapa, actor SarojKhanal, director AkashAdhikari, musician ArjunPokhrel, and others were present on the occasion.
They expressed the belief that the NepCine service would play an important role in bringing positive change in the music industry.
This is the first time that a private company has collected and distributed the royalties of the creators, addressing the huge problem of rights and royalties in the field of Nepali art and music.
The main objective of NepCine is to lead the Nepali art and music sector on the path of timely development, said VidhanKarki, Founder and Managing Director of NepCine.
NepCine has called upon all music producers, lyricists, and musicians to take advantage of this facility by connecting with it. In addition, within the next two years, it has stated that it will provide full medical services to all its members.
