Kathmandu, Jan.30: The Agriculture and Vegetable Market of Kalanki, Kathmandu, came into operation from Friday. Minister for Agriculture and Livestock Development Padma Kumari Aryal inaugurated the market amidst a function today.
Inaugurating the market, Minister Aryal said that the government was working to fulfill its long- term goal of 'Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali' and markets would play an important role to achieve it.
“Market like this will help farmers sell their products,” she said.
Nepali society has been oppressed for a long time by the mentality of cheating without working, she said, adding that in order to make a prosperous life, thinking of eating only by doing something should be developed in every sector.
"This is time to show respect to labour and the farmers who are connected to labour,” said Minister Aryal, “It is necessary for all youth to work hard to develop the habit of working.”
Stating that there was no problem of production now, she said easy market for the products was the problem.
She said that a large-scale production should be increased by solving the market problem.
"When only one person produces, he/she has to look for a market. If we collectively produce vegetables and fruits in a large scale, then such markets will be found in your village,” she said.
She said that the ministry would set up collection centres in the villages to ensure market for farmers.
Minister Aryal also urged the farmers to move ahead for mechanisation of the agriculture sector to increase production and for the overall development of the sector.
She said, "It is not possible to produce goods in large quantities by human labour alone. So we have to go for mechanisation. The government has moved forward to guarantee the market.”
There are currently 115 stalls in the agricultural market.
