Kathmandu, Dec. 5: Sanokaji Tamang, 60, of Matatirtha Ward No. 6, Kathmandu, was killed by his wife Purna Laxmi and her paramour Bishal Tamang, 28, of Matatirtha Ward No. 9.
The reason for the murder was extramarital affair.
A week before the incident, Sanokaji saw his wife with Bishal in compromising situation in his room.
After that, it was natural for them to quarrel and in a fit of rage, Purna Laxmi and Bishal killed Sanokaji, after which they took his body to nearby forest and buried there.
A few days later, police arrested Bishal after a trained dog discovered the body there, and they were arrested. But soon after their arrest, they were released on a district court order.
Bishal, then left Matatirtha and migrated to Makawanpur, settling in Baspani in Makwanpurgadhi Rural Municipality of the district.
He bought a house and land in Baspani at Rs. 600,000 after selling his property in Matatirtha.
"Bishal married another woman and settled there," said Kathmandu Metropolitan Police spokesperson and DSP Pramesh Bista. "But he didn't return to Matatirtha."
Believing that his case was settled and, therefore, won’t be arrested again, Bishal had been living in Makwanpur for seven years.
But Nepal Police had another plan for him.
While the investigating officers of the Metropolitan Police were sifting through the old files, Bishal's name was found in the 'absconding' list.
The Patan High Court had served him jail term of eight years, three months and 17 days in May, 2017. Seeking him, the police reached his house two days ago.
Police got a clue that Bishal had gone to work in Fulkechaur in Hetauda Metropolitan City.
A team deployed from the Kathmandu Metropolitan Police, in coordination with Makwanpur Police, arrested him and brought him to Kathmandu on Tuesday, Dec.1.
DSP Bista said that Bishal was remanded in custody at Sundhara Central Jail as per the court's order.
The Kathmandu Public Prosecutor's Office had appealed against the verdict after the Kathmandu District Court cleared Bishal and Purna Laxmi, who had been in jail only for a short time.
The postmortem report of Sanokaji mentioned that his neck was hacked.
Based on additional evidence, the Patan High Court had ruled that the duo murdered Sanokaji. Police officials involved in the investigation said that he was killed after repeatedly getting hit on the head with a bamboo stick during the quarrel.
While Bishal has been arrested, Purna Laxmi is still at large.
Accoding to DSP Bista, Kathmandu Metropolitan Police Range has so far detained more than 39 fugitives after Tihar festival and sent them to jail.
