Kathmandu, Dec. 7: Nepal’s COVID-19 caseload reached 240,981on Sunday with 1,096 new cases reported in the last 24 hours.
Of the total COVID-19 infected people, 66.5 per cent are males while 34.5 per cent are females, according to the Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP). According to the latest MoHP tally, the total 240,981, includes 157,742 males and 83,239 females.
On Sunday, 1,752 COVID-19 patients recovered nationwide. With this, Nepal’s official national COVID-19 recovery tally has reached 225,805. The recovery rate now stands at 93.70 per cent.
“Of the 6495 Real-Time Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-PCR) tests conducted in the 78 laboratories across the country in the last 24 hours, 1,096 persons were found with the COVID-19 infection, shared Dr. Jageshwor Gautam, MoHP Spokesperson at today’s press briefing. Of today’s cases, 484 were reported in Kathmandu Valley’s three districts.
Meanwhile, Dr. Gautam cautioned everyone that the COVID-19 risk is still high, urging people to exercise usual safety precautions.
“The COVID-19 risk is still prevalent among us and there are positive signs on the inventions of vaccines. The government is already working on ways to ensuring the Nepalis get vaccine once it’s available,” he said. But the commercial production and use of the vaccine has not yet started in the world. When that actually happens, the government will ensure that every Nepali gets vaccinated, he added.
“COVID-19 vaccine is still in the invention phase and medicines are not yet found, so the only way to keep yourself and your loved one safe is to follow all public health protocols and standards that the MoHP has been repeatedly requesting everyone about.”
Dr. Gautam also shared regarding two decisions of the MoHP this morning. “Today morning’s meeting of the MoHP’s Incident Command System (ICS), based on several complaints received from the general public saying that some of the listed COVID-19 treatment hospitals are said to be taking dual fees from both the MoHP and the patients, has decided that the case management taskforce will monitor on this and recommend necessary actions,” he shared.
Also, the meeting has decided that a technical note on the vaccines will be prepared and presented by the Department of Health Services (DoHS) in the upcoming meeting of the ICS, shared Dr. Gautam.
Meanwhile, with 17 more new deaths confirmed in the past 24 hours, Nepal’s death toll has now reached 1,594.
Currently, there are 13,582 active cases of COVID-19 and 536 persons are placed in quarantine.
