Lalitpur, June 6: Lalitpur Metropolitan City (LMC) has decided to provide financial assistance of Rs. 100,000 to the families of those who lost their lives to COVID-19.
Mayor Chiri Babu Maharjan informed at a press conference on Friday that the metropolitan’s disaster management committee, led by the Mayor himself, had taken the decision because the LMC believed that the local government should be a friend to the citizens in their time of need.
Similarly, the metropolis has also decided to provide Rs. 50,000 each to the people who needed to be admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) or required ventilator support while receiving treatment for COVID-19. Likewise, the city will also provide Rs. 25,000 to the people who had to be admitted to the hospital because of the disease.
However, this assistance is only available to the permanent residents of Lalitpur affected by the second wave of the pandemic.
Furthermore, the LMC also stated that it had expanded Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) and antigen testing facilities in each ward.
Addressing the press conference, which was attended by the chairmen of all the wards as well, Mayor Maharjan said that the health and safety of its people was the city’s top priority.
Deputy Mayor Gita Satyal said that the decision was taken with the best interests of the people in mind. “We are always there for the residents of Lalitpur. This assistance will hopefully provide relief to those affected by the coronavirus,” she said.
Meanwhile, Ganesh Aryal, chief administrative officer of the LMC and coordinator of the metro’s rapid response team, claimed that the metropolis had done an excellent job at tackling COVID-19 with the resources at its disposal.
