Kathmandu, March 31 : The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has re-approached the Department of Archeology (DoA) to make concrete efforts towards removing the unlawfully operated business outlets in and around Basantapur area –the world heritage site.    

Earlier on 26 February, KMC had written to the DoA to evict all shops being operated against the rule within seven days. KMC had resorted to make public announcement seeking cooperation to evacuate the unauthorized shops from the area after a month it wrote to the Department.     

"We were forced to make public announcement to evacuate shops from the world heritage site when the Department was dillydallying to take concrete actions to that end despite frequent correspondences", said KMC Police Chief Dhanapati Sapkota.    

Business outlets, including hotels, restaurants and shutters have been operational nearby the Fire Engine Office building and Taleju Temple", Sapkota added.    

He warned that the KIMC would move ahead on its own way if the business outlet owners do not obey the requests and orders.    

However, Department's Director-General Damodar Gautam said they were also effortful in addressing problem in the area which is under its jurisdiction.
