Humla, May 28: Nepali Army has completed the track opening of the Karnali Corridor in four years in Humla section after taking the responsibility of the north-south road project.
It opened the road through 11 insurmountable cliffs and opened the track through rocky hills to complete the national pride project.
The NA had continued the construction work even during the COVID-19 pandemic. About 39 kilometres road section, from Kawadi to Sali Salla, passes through Humla. The Army had started the work on 22 March 2017 and expedited the work after the announcement of lockdown last year.
Chief of construction team Mila Karki said that it was not easy to build a road track in the difficult and rocky terrain. About half a dozen machines and two tonnes of blasting materials were used to blast the cliffs.
He said that army personnel were mobilised for about 16 hours a day along with the machines in the project. About 550 workers including the army were mobilised at the site.
Major cliffs along the track Tirtha Saina Bhir, Lahare Bhir and Chankhela Bhir are 150 metres each, Halgade Bhir, Khachcha Bhir, Bandar Khola Bhir and Balukuna Gauda Bhir are 200 metres each, Kane Bhir is 250 metre long, Nerghat Bhir is 400 metre and Sali Salla Bhir is 1km.
According to Karki, the NA will hand over the project to the Department of Roads by mid-June this year.
