By Amrit Prasad Paudel, Beni, June 15: The Beni-Jomsom road section of the Kaligandaki Corridor has been obstructed due to rain-induced landslides at multiple points.

According to the district police office, Myagdi, incessant rainfall of the last three days has triggered mudslides at Rupse in Annapurna Rural Municipality-3 and Naini Bagar and Naghdhunga in the ward number 2 of the same rural municipality.

The police said that the mudslides falling down from above the road has blocked the road completely and that there was problem to open the road by removing the debris as the mudslides was going on.

Mustang, the district beyond the Himalaya, has been cut off the road access owing to the obstruction in the roads. As the flights are also halted due to COVID-19 related restrictions, the people in Mustang are facing unprecedented difficulty in transport.

Similarly, the road section of Beni-Darbang has also been obstructed as the Khanikhola stream has eroded the road at Phaparkhet in Beni Municipality-4.

The Beni-Baglung road section has also been obstructed due to landslides at Lasti along Maldhunga-Beni road.

With the increased in the flow of the Kaligandaki River, possibility of road at Dallepipal along Beni-Galeshwor road section has also gone up, according to the police.

Meanwhile, a jeep has been stuck in between the landslides near Rupse waterfall along the Beni-Jomsom road.

Indra Singh Sherchan, a tourism entrepreneur at Dana in Annapurna Rural Municiaplity-3, said that the jeep with registration no. Ba 18 Cha 6962 was returning from Samar of Mustang when it got stuck. The jeep was carrying technicians who repaired a machine at Samar.

Efforts to pull out the jeep from the landslides by use of a bulldozer has not been successful as the landslide was going on.
