By Tika Bahadur Basnet, Dang, Apr. 3:  The nationwide lockdown imposed by the government to curb the spread of the coronavirus is now in its second week.

The campaign implemented by Ghorahi Sub-Metropolitan City (GSMC) to ensure people obey the lockdown is emerging as an exemplary model for the rest of the country.

The sub-metro has started delivering essential food items like grains, vegetables, dairy and fruits to people’s houses itself, eliminating the need for them to come out at all.

“We used to keep the markets open from 7 AM to 9 AM for people to buy food but that caused a lot of crowd,” said Mayor Naru Lal Chaudhari, “So, we started home delivery of essential items in coordination with the Dang District Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DDCCI).”

The Sub-Metropolitan City has started the service in wards 10, 14 and 15, much to the delight of the locals.

The sub-metropolitan city uses small trucks to deliver the food items to the locals. The people then buy the items they need from these trucks, thus eliminating the need to go to the market.

“We collaborated with GSMC to deliver food to the residents to help in enforcing the lockdown and to keep people safe,” said DDCCI President Naran Bhusal.

He further informed that the Chamber had delivered four trucks of grains, vegetables, milk and gas cylinders to the local communities and that the items were available to the residents at the market price.

According to Bhusal, the DDCCI has placed General Secretary Naresh Karki in-charge of overseeing the delivery of gas cylinders, Vice President Tanka Singh Budhathoki in-charge of food items, Member Mahendra Budhathoki in-charge of meat products, Member Pitambar Sharma in-charge of dairy products and Member Ram Prasad Pokharel in-charge of fruits.
