Sindhupalchowk, June 27: Floods in the Melamchi River last week had caused damage worth Rs. 1 billion to the head works of the Melamchi Water Supply Project (MWSP), according to the primary estimates.
Information Officer of the project Rajendra Prasad Pant said that all the structures other than the head works and tunnel are damaged in the floods caused by landslides at Bhremathang, upstream location in the river.
Ambathan audit is filled with sand while construction materials, camp and equipment are swept away in the floods.
According to Pant, it would take a long time to repair the diversion for the head works.
"A team of engineers is trying to reach the head works in Ambathan but it is unable to reach there yet. Therefore, we don't have the exact details of damages," he said.
