Tanahun, Dec. 9: The embankment construction to protect Madi Bridge, which connects wards 5 and 3 of Byas Municiplaity, is proceeding swiftly.
The 370-metre-long bridge was at risk as the river had been cutting the lands around.
The embankment is expected to eradicate the risk.
According to Road Division Office of Damauli, the project has been bankrolled by the federal government.
A total of Rs. 5.8 million has been allocated for the embankment.
“The flood had caused major damage in the area of Ward No. 3. Construction of gabion walls have started there. We aim to complete the embankment before the deadline,” said Er. Subarna Shrestha, owner of Geru Construction Service, the company awarded with the project.
According to Shrestha, 15 people are working to construct embankment for a 76-metre area.
Gabion walls were constructed on the side of Ward No. 5 earlier, due to which only the area of Ward No. 3 has been affected by the floods during monsoon.
“The flood had entered in Bhateri, an area in Ward No. 3. Embanking the area properly will not only protect Bhateri but also Damauli bazaar,” said Ashok Kumar Shrestha, a local.
Another local Chudamani Dahal said that a wall along Shantinagar and Durga Temple can protect around 300 houses in the area from floods, too.
