By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Oct. 7: Member of Parliament of the United Kingdom and social worker Helen Grant said that providing quality education to the girls and spreading awareness about climate change was the need of today's era.
Speaking at a special interaction programme organised by Naya Aayam Multi-Disciplinary Institute (NAMI) in Gokarneshwor on Thursday, Grant said, "Various programmes are in operation in Nepal in cooperation with the Nepal government to educate girls and generate awareness about climate change."
The programme was conducted under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba's wife Dr. Arzu Rana Deuba. In the programme, Dr. Deuba said that it was vital to provide at least 12 years of quality education to girls.
Dr. Deuba said that the Global Campaign for Education had targeted to connect at least four million girls across the globe with schools. She added that the UK had also been making efforts to ensure quality education for girls. "Along with the economic and social transformation of the country, educating girls is important in ensuring development and prosperity," she said.
Moreover, Dr. Deuba added that various financial grants were being provided under the Nepal-UK cooperation in order to mitigate the impacts of climate change.
Similarly, addressing the interaction programme, British Ambassador to Nepal Nicola Pollitt said that the UK government was providing various grants and assistance to develop the educational sector of Nepal. "No stone should be unturned in developing the quality of education and to strengthen the relation between the UK and Nepal," said Pollitt.
Dr. Deuba also thanked the UK government for providing assistance in minimising the impact of climate change in Nepal.
