Kathmandu, Dec.5: Minister for Communication and Information Technology Parbat Gurung Friday asked the authorities in the ministry and the departments functioning under it to draft some projects of national need.
Speaking at a meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Development Assessment Committee (MDAC), Minister Gurung said that the authorities in the ministry and departments under it should draft projects of national need to achieve visible results.
Minister Gurung highlighted the uneasy situation invited by COVID-19 pandemic and said it was the right time to do something better for the sake of people.
“Draft projects of national priority that can be implemented through our ministry,” he said, adding that they should not worry about resources for such projects.
Of the 19 bodies functioning under the ministry, only three--the Department of Postal Service, Information Commission and Communication Department presented their first quarter progress report in the meeting.
Minister Gurung was not satisfied with the traditional way of presentation of the authorities.
“Bring some important projects with strategic action plans for the year,” he instructed them.
However, the MDAC meeting scheduled for Friday was postponed for Sunday after a brief discussion on the new strategic plans and programmes.
“Vice chairman of the National Planning Commission is absent today and it’s not good to continue the meeting without him,” Minister Gurung mentioned the reason for the deferral of the meeting.
He directed the officials to present quick and systematic documents. “Wasting valuable time on trivial issues is not appropriate,” he said.
“This time of pandemic is sensitive in itself, staying safe and working smart is the demand of this time,” he said.
According to him, the next meeting will not be lengthy but result-oriented.
