“There are 3012 people living in Ward No 11 of the municipality and we go to the homes of the frail people to give them their allowance,” said Aashish Shrestha, assistant manager of the Ganjbhawanipur branch of Rastriya Banijya Bank (RBB).
“Recently, we provided 82-year-old Shanti Devi Brahmani and 86-year-old Bedami Devi Kalwarin of Mahagadhimai – 10 a total of Rs. 24,000 each, as their allowance of eight months,” said Arbind Kumar Jha, manager of the same branch of RBB.
Kalwarin passed away four days after receiving the money. “Mother had been sending me to the bank every day for the last two weeks to inquire about the social security,” her son Radheshankar Prasad Kalwar told The Rising Nepal. “It was as if she was hanging on just to receive the money.”
