Harisiddhi Dance staged in Panauti

The religiously significant Harisiddhi Dance has arrived in Panauti after a dozen years. The dance, brought to the Panauti Municipality from Harisiddhi of Lalitpur once every 12 years, was last staged here in 2010. That was the first time the dance had been staged in the city in 60 years; the long gap was caused by a lack of funds and resources.

869 species of plants found in Kailali

There are 869 species of plants in Kailali which has relatively more forest and wetland area. According to the Botanical Research Centre, Kailali, 869 species of plants have been found in the district with 812 species of flowering plants and 57 fern species. On the occasion of the 23rd Plant Resources Day to be marked on Tuesday, the Centre organised an interaction with journalists on Sunday and made public the statistics of the plant resources found in the area.

National Folk Duet Festival begins

The National Folk Duet Festival has begun in Kathmandu since Saturday. The festival will last till April 13. The five-day festival was inaugurated by Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun 'Pasang' at Tundikhel amid a special event.

Chha Maya Chhapakkai dominated the 12th D Cine Awards held in Dhulikhel recently by bagging eight awards in total. Maruni and Sanglo won six awards each. Society of Fine Art Journalists Nepal (Sofaj) honoured art journalists who contributed to the development of art through art journalism in the capital on Monday. In the programme, Jaya Dev Bhattarai, editor of Madhupark, the literray magazine, was honoured with Sofaj Lalitkala Journalist award while journalists Shushila Tamang and Narayan Dhungana were presented Sofaj Laxmi Maya Kumale Award and Narayan |Singh Award receptively.

Embankments constructed at Chure

President Chure Tarai Madhes Conservation Development Committee Implementation Unit in Janakpur has expedited the construction of a dam (check dam) to retain the riverine materials in the Chure. The Janakpur unit has intensified the construction of dams on the Kahare Khola in Dhanusha, Mahottari, Sarlahi, Rautahat and Sindhuli districts to prevent soil, sand and gravel from being lost from the Chure.
