Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has called upon the private sector to engage in industrial development with confidence as business-friendly environment has been created in the country. Addressing the 55th annual general assembly of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) cum FNCCI Day-2021, Oli expressed his commitment for timely amendment to laws hindering the industrial development of the country.

Chitwan farmers test four-wheeler paddy transplanter successfully

Farmers in Chitwan are now making efforts to increase production and productivity of paddy by using modern farming tools. Farmers here are confident that the use of modern agricultural tools and techniques in commercial farming will help them resolve the problem of manpower shortage and increase their savings. Farmers of Bachhauli of Ratnanagar and Mumroz of Khairhani municipalities of the district have planted rice by using a four-wheeler machine for the first time.

Sugar production nosedives

The production of sugar across the country has dramatically decreased this year. According to the Nepal Sugar Producers’ Association, sugar production has decreased by 45 per cent compared with last year -- from 180,000 tonnes to 100,000. “The factor responsible for this is the reduction in its cultivation area, which in turn is attributable to dispute over the payment to the sugarcane farmers,” said Sashi Kanta Agrawal, President of the Association.

Farmer Listing, a nationwide campaign to list all the farmers across the country, is all set to be launched here on Saturday. Sugar stock dwindling, import permit being delayed

The government has not given permission to purchase additional sugar even though the stock of sugar at the Salt Trading Corporation (STC) is running out. According to Information Officer at the STC Kumar Rajbhandari, the STC has only around 500 tonnes of sugar in its stock.
