By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Mar. 8: NEC Corporation, a leading Japanese information technology and electronics company, has made plans to provide its facial recognition and public safety systems even for national-level sporting events at a cost-effective manner.

Speaking to journalists from Southwest Asia at a virtual meeting, Keiichiro Yamamoto, senior manager, integrated marketing communication division, NEC Corporation, said that the NEC is ready to provide the facial recognition and public security system on demand even for smaller sporting events at the national level.

NEC Corporation was a gold partner for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games in the categories of 'Specialist Public Safety Equipment and Software and Network Equipment'.

Senior manager Yamamoto shared that facial recognition was done four million times during the Tokyo games at 70 sites of 40 venues of the global sporting event.

"NEC is the no. 1 in terms of accuracy and speed in this system," said the senior manager, adding, "The facial recognition system was not affected by other communication systems during the games, which is also the first case in the world."

He said NEC also provided a congestion visualization system, which is also the first case in the history of games.

Altogether 16,000 devices were used for the network system including a high-level monitoring control device that guarded against possible cyber-attacks and ensured smooth operation of the games.

On a different note, senior manager Yamamoto said that NEC has also been working for promoting an inclusive society by means of its offers of wheelchairs to the needy ones.
