Security prerequisite to good governance, development: PM Deuba

Kathmandu, Feb. 4: Prime Minister and Defense Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has said security is the prerequisite to good governance and development. Citizen's safety is equally imperative, he added.

The Defense Ministry is active in making robust the entire national security system with effective implementation of the national security policy and national defense policy. PM Deuba was saying it in the second quarterly review meeting of the Defense Ministry for the current fiscal year, 2078/79. It was together the meeting of the ministerial development problems resolution committee.

On the occasion, the PM said the construction of national corridors, including Kathmandu-Tarai/Madhes Expressway bearing strategic significance for the economic development, would be completed in time. PM Deuba directed the concerned ministries to manage adequate resources including budget for the construction of national pride projects and significant roadways.

The progress reports of the Defense Ministry, Nepali Army, National Security Council secretariat, Defense University Infrastructures Development Committee were shared during the review meeting.

On the occasion, Vice-Chairperson of the National Planning Commission, Dr Bishwo Poudel, viewed consistency is the development works, and financial and physical progress of the Ministry is imperative.

Chief Secretary Shankar Das Bairagi praised the role Nepali Army played in the establishment of world peace.

Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) Prabhuram Sharma expressed commitment that the projects, including National Defense University, would be completed on time.

In the meeting, Defense Secretary Kiran Raj Sharma pointed out the need for coordination, cooperation and facilitation among the ministries and its subordinates to complete the projects in time.
