Nutrition related programme should be taken to people's level: CM Raut

Janakpur, Dec. 31: Chief Minister of Province 2, Lalbabu Raut, has stressed the need of taking the nutrition-related programme to people's level.

At a provincial-level orientation programme 'Multi-sector Nutrition Plan' organised by National Nutrition and Food Security Coordination Committee at Janakpurdham today, Chief Minister Raut said that the nutrition-related programme should be taken at people's level as the nutrition-related operated programme has not been brought into practice.

Saying lack of information about nutrition is the main reason behind child malnutrition in province 2, he laid emphasis on the need of taking the nutrition-related programme among the people to resolve malnutrition-related problems.

He, however, said that although the statistics related to nutrition has shown improving the situation of the province, it was not satisfactory, saying it is a matter of unfortunate that children are suffering from malnutrition in lack of information about the utility of food despite sufficient availability of foods including milk, fruits and different foodstuffs.

Similarly, a member of the National Planning Commission, Dr Uma Shankar Prasad Sah expressed the view that nutrition-related programe should be expanded to rural areas not only in urban areas.

Likewise, Joint-Secretary of NPC, Dr Kiran Rupakheti, Nutrition Programme Director Laxmi Ghimire, Nutrition Section Chief Leela Bikram Thapa, Danikant Jha of Province Policy Commission had facilitated about the nutrition condition and policy to be adopted to improve the situation.
