Kathmandu, Feb. 9: Minister for Physical Infrastructure and Transport Renu Kumari Yadav has expressed her confidence that the Nagdhunga Tunnel Way would be completed on time.

After a discussion with the project office employees and construction company officials following an on-site inspection of the project Wednesday, Minister Yadav said that the construction process was satisfactory.

According to her, the construction company was working towards ensuring quality in the project as well as the timeline to compete it. The Minister was briefed that the tunnel construction had achieved 29 per cent physical progress with 44 per cent fiscal progress.

The main tunnel related works have seen 33.2 per cent completion while exit tunnel related works have been completed by 52.9 per cent.

Minister Yadav assured the project officials that she was ready to help address any issues impeding the project. “Be it financial or any other issues, we will resolve it,” she assured.

According to her, the tunnel construction process was a learning experience for Nepal. “The experience earned from this project could be leveraged for other projects elsewhere,” she opined.

Similarly, Nagdhunga Tunnel Project Chief Nareshman Shakya informed the Minister that they were lacking the fund to pay the compensation amount to those whose private lands were acquired for the project.

Also, sub-judice cases relating to five houses lying in the project site had also hindered the construction process, briefed Shakya. Minister Yadav was accompanied by secretary at the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport Rabindranath Shrestha and director general at the Department of Road Shivahari Sapkota among others.
