By TRN Online, Kathmandu, Feb. 11: Spokesperson of the Nepali Congress (NC) Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat has viewed that the Millennium Challenge Compact (MCC) should be endorsed as it is prepared in line with the demands of developing countries like Nepal.

Addressing a programme organised by Nepal Press Union to congratulate Dr. Mahat on his appointment as the NC spokesperson, Dr. Mahat highlighted that the MCC should be tabled in the parliament and endorsed at the earliest.

He commented that the MCC has been brought into controversy in the last year although all the political parties in Nepal are in favour of it.

"Those political parties and leaders that are now opposing the MCC at present were involved in it and were in favour of it. But, it is deplorable that some of them have brought it into controversy," argued Dr. Mahat.

He made it clear that the MCC is not a part of the Indo-pacific strategy or a military project and that it would be operated under Nepal's law as it has been offered as per the wishes of the Nepali people.

He criticized those political parties for opposing it when the time to endorse it has come at the doorstep.

Dr. Mahat also argued that the proposal registered at the parliament should be presented and that it was the responsibility of the Speaker to present the proposal registered by the government.
