Trishuli, March 12: The obstruction to the dumping garbage from Kathmandu Valley in Sisdol of Nuwakot continues even today.

The obstruction has not stopped despite the decision of the last cabinet meeting to form a high-level committee to minimize the impact of waste management at the landfill site of Bancharedanda, an area bordering Sisdol and Dhading in Nuwakot.

According to Shri Ram Dhungana, coordinator of the Bancharedanda Landfill Site Affected Areas Concern Committee, garbage from Kathmandu was stopped even today due to the protest of the locals. The locals have demanded that the land of the Guthi of the affected area should be registered according to the legal process, the highly affected settlements of the affected area should be relocated, the road leading to the landfill should be upgraded and the waste should be disposed of scientifically.

Even though the government has decided to form a high-level committee and a rapid action task force to address the problems in the affected areas, our legitimate demands have not been addressed, Dhungana said. Protests will continue until a clear decision is reached.

The obstruction continues since March 7 with the residents of the affected areas have demanding relocation of settlements in various villages in Nuwakot and Dhading affected by the landfill site and the acquisition of about 3,000 ropani of land in the area. To address the demand of the acquisition of land owned by Guthi, it has to be transferred to people's ownership.
