Ranjha, April 15: Educational institutions in Nepalgunj Sub-metropolitan City are to be closed for a week from Friday after a spike in coronavirus infection cases.    

A meeting of Nepalgunj sub-metropolis Disaster Management Committee held today decided to close the educational institutions inside the sub-metropolis area for a week after cases of coronavirus increased rapidly in Nepalgunj in the recent period, said Deputy-Mayor Uma Thapa Magar.    

The meeting held under the chairmanship of Mayor Dr Dhawal Shumsher Rana has decided to take the proposal for closing all educational institutions across the district in the meeting of District Risk Management Centre.    

Similarly, the meeting also took the decision to further tighten for health and antigen test of India returnees at Jamunaha border point.    

Requesting to follow health precautions including wearing a mask, the Committee also decided to tighten the market monitoring as well as to close the shop running its business without wearing masks for a week.    

It also demanded to take action against those moving outside the house without wearing a mask.    

In view of increasing infection cases, people have been urged to follow a health protocol like wearing facemasks and using sanitisers while stepping outside, said Superintendent of Police Om Bahadur Rana. Shooting up infection cases in the neighbouring cities of India has affected Banke district.    

In a bid to contain the virus, a campaign against the infection would be launched after holding a meeting with stakeholders, said Chief District Officer Shiva Ram Gelal. "I reached the district today itself. I will hold a discussion on ways to control the infection and take a decision on managing isolation and quarantine facilities at all local levels from tomorrow."
