New tracking software launched to improve policing

Kathmandu, Sept. 18: Among the various steps taken to improve policing across the country, Nepal Police have come up with new software to track the record of the police personnel under its new action plan.
On Sunday, Inspector General of Police Shailesh Thapa Kshetri had officially launched the Nepal Police Action Plan, 2077 and an ‘Implementation Tracking Software’ to monitor the results.
“The action plan will assist Nepal Police to improve its performances and pave a long-term benefit. The action plan should be followed-up effectively,” said Kshetri during the launch which was participated virtually by Additional Inspector Generals of Police, Deputy Inspector Generals of Police and Chiefs of seven State police.
The action plan was formulated under Section 196 of Police Act 2012 to make the police personnel aware of politeness, limits, accountability, dutifulness, ethics and discipline.
The action plan directs the police personnel to treat all people equally despite their background and perform their responsibilities by remaining under the ethics and maintaining discipline. The action plan strictly restricts officers to ridicule anyone in any form.
The officers have also been directed to keep a proper record of the works performed as per assignment. The report prepared by the officers are analysed through the software by senior authorities from different parts of the country.
“The officers are assigned with the tasks of which they now have to provide a proper report of the results. It will be analysed by senior departments and officers,” said Senior Superintendent of Police Kuber Kadayat, central police spokesperson.
Inspection regarding the implementation of action plan will be conducted by different committees formed in Nepal Police headquarter, Metropolitan Police Office, State Police Office, Metropolitan Police Range and District Police Office.
“Along with the action plan, the officers will also provide report based on different forms of criminal activities as well. The senior departments will then analyse and come up with effective solutions for it,” said Kadayat.
With the report of the situations exchanged and inspections conducted inside the department, Nepal Police expects to come up with necessary changes in its plans and policies after suitable analysis.
Nepal Police have also been continuing its Community-Police Partnership campaign effectively by coordinating with locals and local level authorities to improve security in the area.
Likewise, Nepal Police have also requested the public to complain at the toll free number 1113 regarding any mistreatment or negligence by police officers so that the headquarters would take necessary actions against the wrong doers.
Over the years, Nepal Police have been tackling crimes efficiently across the country but have been facing criticisms due to unethical behaviours of some of its officers.
However, with a new action plan and the authority’s concern of its quality implementation alongside other steps to be taken with time, Nepal Police have ensured improvement its policing.
