Kathmandu, Sept. 22: The Embassy of Nepal in Pretoria, South Africa celebrated the National Day of Nepal by organising a programme on Friday.
Ghana Shyam Lamsal, Nepali Ambassador for South Africa, highlighted the importance of the Constitution Day of Nepal.
He said that the Constitution of Nepal is not only a historic achievement of the Nepali people but also a highly progressive law of the land that has set unprecedented parallels by global standards in guaranteeing the rights of the people.
He also mentioned that the country now has poised for accelerated economic development for which, the government had already launched a massive development effort under a vision of ‘Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali.’
Informing about celebration of 2020 as ‘Visit Nepal Year’, he invited all to visit Nepal to enjoy rich cultural, natural and adventurous tourism.
In terms of bilateral relations between Nepal and South Africa, Lamsal expressed satisfaction on growing relations in trade and tourism sector.
He further mentioned that Nepal and South Africa enjoy excellent state of relationship since the establishment of diplomatic relations on 28th July, 1994.
“We have maintained and strengthened the most cordial relations for more than 25 years now. We not only seat side by side in the international forums including the United Nations but also work closely and cooperatively in many issues of our common concern and interests.”
On the occasion David Malcomson, Acting Deputy Director General of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation conveyed the congratulatory message of the Government of South Africa to the government and the people of Nepal on the occasion of the National Day.
He also expressed gratitude to the people of Nepal for the support extended to the South African people during the struggle for freedom.
He appreciated Nepal’s significant contribution of troops for UN Peacekeeping Operation on the African Continent and across the globe.
The event was attended by over 160 guests including high ranking officials of the government of South Africa, Heads of Diplomatic Missions stationed in Pretoria, other members of the diplomatic community, business representatives, political figures, well-wishers and friends of Nepal, media and representatives and some Nepali diasporas community living around Pretoria and Johannesburg.
Meanwhile, The Permanent Mission of Nepal to the United Nations Geneva hosted a reception on Friday to mark the National Day, a historic day for the commemoration of promulgation of the Constriction of Nepal in 2015.
Addressing the event, Mani Prasad Bhattarai, Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations Office and other international organizations in Geneva, said the rights-based, inclusive, federal and democratic Constitution is the outcome of the struggles and aspirations of Nepali people over seven decades.
The Constitution embraces core values of multi-cultural society and reflects geographical diversity of the country.
The Ambassador further mentioned that with political stability in the country, the Government of Nepal is currently focused on achieving sustained peace, social justice, economic prosperity and sustainable development with the vision of realizing “Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali”.
He highlighted that ‘Visit Nepal 2020’ is being observed as a special occasion for tourists to enjoy Nepal’s unique combination of nature, culture and adventure, and also welcomed the attending guests to visit Nepal with families and friends and enjoy a lifetime experience.
Geneva-based diplomats, Heads of Missions and senior officials from International Organizations, as well as friends of Nepal and Nepali professionals were present at the National Day reception.
