Birgunj, Sept 4: The Nepal Army has rebuilt those houses damaged and flattened by the March 31 violent storm in Bara and Parsa districts and handed to the owners.
State 2 Chief Minister Lalbabu Raut handed the rebuilt structures to chiefs of local levels affected by the freak storm amidst a programme held here today in the presence of Officiating Prime Minister and Minister for Defence, Ishwor Pokhrel.
The storm which is recognised as being a 'tornado' had killed 27 people in the two districts of State 2, causing the physical loss amounting to Rs billions. Earlier the government had decided to give the responsibility of reconstruction to the NA which completed the task in three phases. Under this project, part of People's Housing Reconstruction Programme, the NA had built 869 houses here for those affected by the storm.
The government had allocated Rs 846.8 million to the project. A total of 2,665 NA personnel and 3,667 non armies were mobilised to undertake the project.
Chief of Army Staff Purna Chandra Thapa and Bara and Parsa Chief District Officers were also present on the occasion.
