Gaighat, Dec. 18: The Department of Roads has constructed a temporary Bailey bridge over the Sunkoshi River under the Gaighat-Diktel Road section.
The department has fixed the Bailey bridge as previous years to operate for about six months after the water level in the Sunkoksi River diminished.

The Bailey bridge has been fixed as there is no permanent bridge over the Sunkoshi River, which connects the district headquarters. The road came into operation 27 years ago.
The Baily bridge was constructed at a cost of Rs 8.4 million. It was removed in June after the flow of water increased in the river.

According to Gopal Prasad Khakurel, Chief Engineer at Gaighat-Diktel Road Project Division Office, vehicles started passing through bridge on Thursday.
Khakurel said that Udayapur and Khotang districts have only been temporarily connected to the road network for the next six months.

Both districts will be connected permanently only after the construction of a concrete bridge over the Sunkoshi River is completed, he informed.
