Birendranagar, Nov 27 (RSS):
Sixteen days of Activism against Gender-based Violence (GBV) is yet to reach out to rural areas, said the Karnali State Assembly (SA) members said this during an interaction programme organised by the state social development ministry.
On the occasion, SA deputy speaker Pushpa Gharti expressed commitment to taking all possible measures for the prevention and elimination of GBV in the state.
SA member Padma Khadka complained that prograrmmes against GBV were yet to reach among the vulnerable and victim groups.
Such programmes were centered in the capital, she said, underlining the need of extending them to villages and remote areas as well. Another SA member Rato Kami was of the view that programmes against GBV should be launched throughout the year instead of limiting them to 16 days.
The lawmaker stressed the Activism was expected to address the discrimination against son and daughter, the issue of Chhaupadi and untouchability pervasive primarily in villages, creating an encouraging atmosphere to unlearn discriminatory practices.
Ministry's secretary Dr Man Bahadur BK informed that a draft of the act against domestic violence had been already registered at the SA and the state had build shelters for survivors of domestic violence at six locations.
It is stressed combined efforts are necessary to fight against GBV.
