Kathmandu, Sept. 10: Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara Monday held meetings with the visiting delegates of the Irish parliament led by speaker Sean O Fearghail at Singha Durbar, Kathmandu.
The delegation of the Irish parliament is in Nepal at the invitation of speaker Mahara.
The meeting dwelled on the agenda of bilateral relations, exchange of parliamentary experiences, formation of Nepal-Ireland Parliamentary Friendship Group, education, tourism, trade and agriculture, Federal Parliament secretariat said.
The visit of the Irish speaker and delegate members would help enhance cordial relations between the two nations, speaker Mahara expressed during the meeting.
Presently, the Federal Parliament of Nepal and the State Assemblies were focusing on formulation of the new laws for the effective implementation of federalism, Mahara said sharing Nepali experience of parliamentary practices to the Irish lawmakers.
“The Federal Parliament of Nepal is inclusive having representation of all classes, genders, communities and regions as the parliamentarians are elected through direct and proportional representation system,” he said.
Speaker Mahara also urged the Irish delegates to promote Visit Nepal Year 2020 by asking Irish people to visit Nepal.
Irish Speaker Sean O Fearghail expressed happiness for the invitation to visit Nepal. “Nepal can get benefit by promoting tourism industry as Ireland has good experience of generating income through tourism industry.”
The Irish speaker further said that he was impressed with the Nepalese diaspora in Ireland as they had good impact among Irish community. “I have been attending the programmes organised by Nepali community in Ireland.”
Around 3000 Nepali people are working in Ireland in different sectors.
“Ireland can cooperate in the field of agriculture, tourism, hydropower, trade and education sectors as it has been supporting building of schools and hospitals in Nepal,” he said.
The Irish delegation includes Maureen O Sullivan, Catherine Noone, John Hamilton and Brian Prunty. Convener of Nepal-Ireland Parliamentary Friendship Group and member of parliament Radha Gyawali, secretary general of the Federal Parliament Manohar Prasad Bhattarai, secretaries Gopal Nath Yogi and Bharat Raj Gautam attended the bilateral meeting.
