434 lawmakers, staffs tested negative for COVID-19

Kathmandu, May 8: Throat swabs of total 275 members of the House of Representatives and National Assembly have been collected on Thursday and Friday. The sample swabs of the lawmakers will be tested for COVID-19 before the commencement of the sixth session of the federal parliament at 4.00pm today.

Throat swabs of 212 lawmakers (179 from HoR and 33 from NA) and 229 employees of the Federal Parliament Secretariat were collected on Thursday.

Swabs of additional 63 lawmakers (53 from HoR and 10 from NA) have been collected today, said Speaker Agni Prasad Sapkota's press coordinator Shreedhar Naupane. Swabs of remaining 54 lawmakers are yet to be collected, it has been said. There are 275 HoR members and 58 NA members.

Meanwhile, all 434 lawmakers and government employees collected on Thursday have been tested negative for COVID-19, said director of the Epidemiology and Disease Control Division under the Ministry of Health and Population, Dr Basudev Pandey.
